Who we are

FreeBond (“we”, “us”) is a South African home-loan origination service that helps buyers understand affordability, prepare applications, and approach the banks. The responsible party for this notice is FreeBond (Pty) Ltd, based at 3 Glade Road, Rondebosch, Cape Town, 7800, South Africa.

If you have any questions about this notice or how your personal information is handled, please contact us through the details below.

What personal information we collect

  • Identification & contact: name, email address and, where you choose to provide it, a mobile/WhatsApp number.
  • Financial overview: where you complete an indicative check or pre-approval request, the household income, monthly debt commitments, intended deposit, target property value and buying stage you tell us about.
  • Enquiry & message: the short message or question you submit, and your preferred reply method.

We do not request or collect identity documents, payslips, bank statements or other sensitive documents through this website. Where those are later needed for a formal application, we will confirm a safe way to share them before asking, and we will not request them earlier or through unsecured links.

Why we process it (purposes)

  • To respond to your enquiry and provide the home-loan, pre-approval or buyer-support service you requested.
  • To prepare an indicative affordability estimate, pre-approval request or Property Strategy enquiry as you ask.
  • To submit and manage your bond application with the banks, where you instruct us to.
  • To send you the home-buying guides, tools and updates you have affirmatively opted in to — never unless you opt in.

Necessary vs optional fields

The fields you must complete depend on the form you use. We only ask for what we need to respond or deliver the service you requested.

  • Website Contact form: first name, surname and email are required to reply. Mobile number, where you are in your journey, your preferred reply method and your short message are optional but help us respond more usefully.
  • Pre-approval request (website): your name and email are required. Mobile number and target property value are optional.
  • FreeBond Buyers Programme signup: your name and email are required to register your signup. The marketing opt-in is optional — if you leave it unticked you receive a one-time response and are not enrolled in ongoing guides or updates.
  • Formal pre-approval with FreeBond: where you proceed to a full pre-approval, the dedicated pre-approval form collects required details including your phone number, budget, deposit, number of purchasers, employment status, stated income and the property area. Those details are needed to assess and prepare your application.

The privacy acknowledgement checkbox is required before you can submit any website form: it confirms you have read this notice and understand how we process your information. The marketing opt-in is always optional and only delivers ongoing guides and updates if you affirmatively tick it.

Consequences of not providing necessary information: we will not be able to respond to or progress your enquiry. Not opting in to marketing simply means you will not receive our guides and updates — it does not affect a separately requested service.

QuickCheck and website tools

Our QuickCheck affordability tool and other website calculators run in your browser and are designed for self-service. The figures you enter are used to calculate an indicative result on your device and are not sent to us or stored in a customer record merely because you use the tool. If you choose to continue to a formal pre-approval, any indicative context you carry forward is treated as self-declared and unverified, and is not treated as confirmed information until you submit it in a form.

Who we share it with (recipients)

To deliver the service you request, your information may be shared with:

  • The major South African banks and their home-loan divisions, where you instruct us to submit an application.
  • The lender and origination partners we work with, where required to progress your application.
  • Service providers we use to store and manage enquiries and applications, where required to deliver the service.

We do not sell your personal information.

Your rights

You have the right, subject to applicable law (including POPIA), to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Object to certain processing.
  • Request deletion of your information where applicable.
  • Withdraw marketing consent and opt out at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the details above. If you are not satisfied, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa):

Security and retention

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information. We keep your information only for as long as is needed to provide the service and respond to your enquiry, and for as long as required to meet any lawful record-keeping obligations. Application records are retained for the duration of the bond process and any associated legal retention requirements.

Marketing opt-out

If you have opted in to marketing, you can opt out at any time — by replying STOP or unsubscribe to any message, or by asking us through the contact details above. Withdrawing marketing consent does not affect a separately requested service you asked us to provide.

Cookies and analytics

This website does not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. Essential browser storage (such as remembering your calculator inputs during a session) is used only to make the tools work for you and is not used to track you across other sites.

Cross-border & storage

Some of the service providers we use may store or process information outside South Africa. Where that happens, we rely on service providers that are expected to handle personal information in line with applicable data-protection requirements. We will provide further specific cross-border details on request.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. The version and date at the top will change with any update, and the current version will always be the one published on this page.
